Football: Morgan ready for Williams partnership

MARVIN MORGAN has welcomed the addition of his pal Manny Williams to the Woking set-up.

The strikers played together for Yeading, and Morgan hopes he and hot-shot Williams – who has signed from Blue Square South side Maidenhead United – can form a lethal pairing.

“It’s a good signing,” said Morgan. “Manny is a tricky player with good feet and is a good finisher. He’s a box player and everyone knows we need one. Manny will be a great asset to the club.”

Morgan was a first-year professional when he joined the Cards last summer, and he has no doubts Williams will adapt.

He said: “He has been around and will do well with us, so I can’t wait for next season to start and hopefully we can get a good partnership going.”

Caretaker manager Colin Lippiatt said he had no hesitation in snapping up 26-year-old Williams, who netted 30 times in 47 appearances for the Magpies.

Lippiatt explained: “I’ve been well aware of Manny for quite a while and I didn’t want to risk losing him.

“He was under pressure from another five clubs – two in our division and three in Blue Square South – to join them. He wanted full-time football because he felt it was the right time in his life for that.

“I will make judgements which I think are right for Woking. Hopefully the new manager will come in and think it’s the right signing," he added.
