Crackdown on fairground troublemakers

EXTRA police patrols are being deployed at a Surrey fairground amid fears that youths might be planning to cause trouble.

Officers from the Tandridge safer neighbourhood team are warning against any criminal behaviour in Caterham-on-the-Hill.

The fair, at Westway, will be in the area until Sunday, May 11.

Surrey Police believe it could be a potential meeting ground for youngsters from outside Caterham to behave anti-socially.

Sergeant Daniel Gutierrez said: “We believe a group of young people may wish to exploit the fact the fair is in Caterham as an opportunity to come into the area intent on behaving anti-socially or causing disorder.

"I cannot stress enough that this kind of activity is simply not accepted and we will take action to crack down on those who commit offences.

“Over the bank holiday weekend, officers from the safer neighbourhood team and the neighbourhood support team were on patrol and were able to ensure the fun of the fairground was not disrupted.

“The fair is a great chance for the community to come together and have some fun and we will work hard to ensure the minority do not spoil the event for the majority.”
