The accident took place in the early hours of Saturday on the London-bound carriageway between junctions three and two, for Lightwater and the M25. Surrey Police said the driver of a blue Range Rover, a man believed to have been in his 50s, died as a result of his injuries. The driver and passenger of a silver Mitsubishi Colt were both taken to St Peter’s Hospital, in Chertsey, with minor injuries. Police are appealing for witnesses to the crash, which happened at about 1.13am on Saturday.
