'Fake gun' sparks armed police response

A TEENAGER from Oxted was arrested on suspicion of firearms offences following reports of a boy carrying a fake gun on a train.

Police received a call from a member of the public just before 7.30am on Thursday as a train was leaving East Grinstead station in West Sussex.

Passengers were removed from the train and station platforms as an armed response unit searched the carriages.

Police said a boy discovered in a toilet was found to be in possession of a replica BB gun.

A 15-year-old has been questioned and bailed to appear at Crawley police station on April 29.

DCI Paul Langley said: “This caused a great deal of distress and disruption to morning commuters.

“It could have ended differently, given the circumstances and seriousness of the threat posed, and we would warn anyone thinking of carrying weapons in public to think again.”
