Witness appeal after gunpoint betting shop robbery

Coral bookmakers in Ewell suffered the latest in a series of betting shop robberies

Coral bookmakers in Ewell suffered the latest in a series of betting shop robberies

ARMED robbers threatened staff at a Ewell bookmakers before stealing more than £300.

Police are appealing for witnesses to the incident which took place at 3.45pm on March 23 at the Coral branch in Chessington Road.

Two men threatened two employees with handguns and ordered them to open the door to the counter area.

The workers knelt on the floor as the robbers stole £370 in cash before leaving the shop and heading down Plough Road.

"Cowardly crime"

The suspects were described as white, about 5ft 10in tall, of medium build, and wearing dark clothing and balaclavas.

Detectives are investigating possible links with an armed robbery at Ladbrokes in Thames Ditton and an attempted robbery at Ladbrokes in Dorking earlier this month.

Detective Constable Rebecca Tiffin said: “This was a very serious incident where two members of staff have been threatened in their place of work.

“Fortunately no-one was hurt during the offence but the incident was extremely traumatic for the two staff members.

"I am determined to track down those responsible for this cowardly crime.”

Anyone with information should contact DC Tiffin at Epsom CID on 0845 125 2222.
