Surrey man killed in head-on crash near York

A MAN killed in a head-on collision between two cars near York has been named as Colonel George Edward V Rochfort-Rae, of Wonersh, near Guildford.

The 79-year-old, who lived in The Street, was driving a Renault Clio which collided with a Peugeot 206 at about 4.40pm on Thursday.

The other driver, a 75-year-old man, and his 71-year-old passenger, both sustained minor chest injuries.

Two ambulance crews, a doctor and a rapid response vehicle were sent to the scene, on the A166 at Wetwang.

A Humberside Police spokeswoman said: "The emergency services immediately attended, and an off-duty police officer began to render emergency medical assistance to the driver of the Clio."

The spokeswoman said a doctor pronounced Col Rochfort-Rae dead at 5.20pm.

His relatives have been informed.
