Policing divisions cut after funding announcement

A MULTI-million pound shortfall within Surrey Police has prompted it to reduce the number of policing divisions in the county.

As of April 2008, the North West Surrey division, which covers Woking and Camberley, will become defunct with its boroughs moving to other divisions as part of the reshuffle.

It will bring the total number of police divisions down from four to three.

The move has been taken to combat a £5.3 million funding gap over the next three years, which the force has blamed on poor government funding.
