Jools Holland performing at summer picnic concert

CELEBRATED musician Jools Holland will be performing at Charterhouse School in Godalming with his Rhythm and Blues Orchestra for a night of pure musical fun in August.

Tickets are already on sale for the concert, on Saturday August 2, which will also feature special guests Marc Almond, Ruby Turner and Louise Marshall.

Chris Bailey, event manager from IML Concerts, said: “It’s a real pleasure to bring Jools Holland to Charterhouse for his first appearance at the school and I am certain the audience will experience a tremendous show.

“It will be a picnic-style concert so we encourage the audience to take their own chairs, rugs, cushions, food and drink.

“We are delighted that the school have agreed to host the show and thank them for their support.”

The stage will be in front of the chapel and the audience can find a spot on the magnificent lawns.

Mr Bailey added: “We have introduced tickets for children under 16 at £15, with entry for the under fives free.

“Over the past nine years of organising shows around the UK, we have found a growing number of children attending his concerts and hope that the reduced prices will encourage more families to join us.”

Fireworks finale

The Rhythm and Blues Orchestra has evolved since 1985, when Jools and his drummer, Gilson Lavis, began touring as a duo.

Today’s 18-piece band is capable of selling out all over Britain and Europe.

From Canterbury Cathedral and Kew Gardens to the Glastonbury Festival and filling the Albert Hall each Christmas in what has become an annual ritual, the orchestra is a hit wherever it goes.

At Charterhouse, a grand fireworks finale will round off what promises to be a magical night out.

Gates open at 5pm with the support artists on stage from 7.30pm.

To book, call IML Concerts on 01603 660444 or online at www.farnhammaltings.com

Tickets are also available through Charterhouse School on 01483 239600, or from the Farnham Maltings and the Yvonne Arnaud Theatre in Guildford.
