Cannes screening for hit comedy

A MOLESEY filmmaker’s hit comedy will be screened at the Cannes Film Festival next week.

Charles Michel Duke’s short film Caution Wet Paint will be showcased in the Cannes Short Film Corner from May 14.

Duke’s comedy takes a light-hearted look at the social scene of London’s East End, featuring such things as a bus-stop love tryst and Kung Fu pizza delivery boys.

Duke said: “I wanted to show the world the rich and vibrant city that London has become and the dynamic setting of the East End truly illustrates the cosmopolitan nature of England’s capital.”

Duke, a self-taught independent filmmaker who created Caution Wet Paint with a budget of £100, utilises digital cinematography to create his vision of modern-day Britain.

Duke’s previous short films were broadcast on Canada’s Emmy Award-winning Bite TV last year and on the UK’s Propeller TV. He also presents a weekly show on the London radio station NuSound 92FM, seeking out the best emerging talent from London’s eclectic music scene.

Duke describes his short film as a comedy that can be enjoyed by anyone.
