THERE was a time was in order to play Pac-Man you'd need a hefty arcade machine and a stack of 10p pieces as long as your arm. No longer, thanks to the inexorable march of progress and Atari's fabulous new collection of classic games. Namco Museum DS gives gamers a virtual arcade where they can choose from eight slices of old-school action: Pac-Man, Pac-Man VS., Galaga, Xevious, Dig Dug II, Galaxian, Mappy, and The Tower of Druaga. The conversions are so faithful you can almost smell the 80s, but also include an option that allows players to choose whether they want to play with a view adapted to the Nintendo DS or in classic arcade style. The big attraction for many though, will be the inclusion of Pac-Man VS: an addictive, multiplayer take on Pac-Man available here for the very first time in wireless, standalone form, with downloadable play that allows multiple players to battle. Using only one game cartridge Namco Museum DS isn't just a title for nostalgia fans, its a great way to teach others the pleasures of retro-gaming too. |
