Neighbourhood policing updates On this page you can find out all the latest neighbourhood policing news and initiatives from around the county.
Molesey
Youngsters in West Molesey have been visited by local police officers who taught them about road safety and stranger danger.
Neighbourhood Specialist Officer Pc Phil Jebb and PCSO Eamonn Bates taught children at Henrietta Playgroup in Walton Road about what the police do and how they can stay safe.
Sunbury
Residents will get the chance to speak to police officers at a new daytime meeting being held on May 12.
The Lower Sunbury Safer Neighbourhood Team is trialling the day panel meeting at the Manning Room, in Green Street, Sunbury, at 10am.
If it proves popular the officers hope to make it a regular event, allowing police to speak to and engage with members of the community who cannot always get to evening meetings.
Leatherhead, Banstead & Dorking
A selection of police station front counters across Surrey will stay open for longer after a recent trial period proved popular.
Leatherhead police station will now operate on Mondays between 8am and 4pm, but will no longer be open in the evenings.
Dorking police station will now open on Wednesdays from 10am to 6pm, and Banstead station on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 10am to 6pm.
Farncombe
A pizza night has been one of several events and initiatives which have seen a dramatic decrease in the number of complaints about anti-social behaviour in Farncombe recently.
The area's Safer Neighbourhood Team said it was attended by more than 30 young people who had their say about local issues.
Sergeant Danielle Mead said neighbourhood officers had shown “hard work, determination and commitment" to try to tackle anti-social behaviour.
Elmbridge
A group of young people from Elmbridge will be treated to a day out at Thorpe Park on May 30 courtesy of Pc Lee Fabry.
Pc Fabry, neighbourhood specialist officer for Cobham and Oxshott, wants to take 28 under-privileged youths aged 11 to 17 to the theme park, and he is hoping local businesses will offer sponsorship for the trip.
He said: “This is a worthy cause that will bring a smile to the faces of local children who are unable to have days out like this, and it will give their parents a well needed rest during the half-term holiday.
Waverley
Thefts of 4x4 vehicles, tractors, plant machinery and diesel in the Waverley borough have prompted renewed advice for members of the community to join a Farmwatch scheme.
Started in Cranleigh in 2006, the initiative provides crime reduction advice and Farmwatch signs to rural residents, as well as offering a forum for people to share details of suspicious activity.
Anyone interested in joining a scheme should e-mail Pc John Hockley at 496@surrey.pnn.police.uk.
Oxted
Pc Richard Smurthwaite has joined Tandridge's Safer Neighbourhood Team, with a promise to tackle community issues.
He said: "As a local boy, I understand that the concerns of those who live, work and visit areas within Oxted are different to the issues faced by those in other areas of Tandridge."
Pc Smurthwaite was a lifeguard at Tandridge Leisure Centre before joining Surrey Police three years ago.
Haslemere
A donation of £450 has been made by a local police officer towards the reconditioning of an old car as part of a youth club project.
The Peugeot is being done up under the guidance of a youth worker and trained mechanic, Des Chambers, for The Place To Be Club, in Wey Hill.
It will be used for supervised local track racing, and Pc Rob Hawkes said: "It sounds like a really worthwhile project and I am sure it will be money well spent." First printed in:
