A SUPERMARKET worker is planning the trip of a lifetime Down Under after receiving a bonus worth 20% of his salary.

Adam Whitaker, 21, a trainee fish specialist at the Esher High Street branch of Waitrose, is one of nearly 70,000 John Lewis partnership staff members benefiting from the firm’s 18.7% rise in annual profits.

Australian-bound Adam will also be able to take advantage of the unpaid leave scheme offered by the company to longstanding employees.

He said: “I’m still undecided as to how long I’ll be going for but the bonus provides a nice boost to help me get out there along with some extra spending money and without it, I don’t think I would be able to make this trip for a few years.

“The trip will also enable me to expand my knowledge and experience of different fish and meat — something that I will be able to bring back to my job one I have completed my trip.”
